LiveCaptions
Real-time captions. All on-device.
LiveCaptions is a macOS application that delivers real-time speech-to-text captioning with professional NDI video output, all processed entirely on-device.
LiveCaptions addresses a growing need in broadcast and live event production: reliable, low-latency captioning that doesn't route audio through third-party cloud services. By leveraging Apple's native Speech framework, all transcription happens locally on the user's Mac. No audio leaves the machine. No transcripts are uploaded. No account is required. For live event producers working with sensitive content, corporate keynotes, medical conferences, legal proceedings, this is captioning they can deploy without a compliance conversation.
Built for the production workflow
LiveCaptions renders captions as a network-accessible NDI source, making it immediately available to any NDI-compatible production software: vMix, TriCaster, Wirecast, and others. Producers can composite captions directly into their video pipeline without screen capture workarounds or browser source fragility.
The LiveCaptions Pro tier supports resolutions up to 4K (3840x2160), frame rates from 24 to 60fps, transparent backgrounds for clean alpha-key compositing, and audio passthrough, giving producers full control over how captions integrate into their output.
Conversation Mode for multi-speaker production
LiveCaptions Pro includes Conversation Mode, which splits a stereo audio input into independent left and right channels, each with its own transcription stream. This enables distinct speaker identification with customisable labels and per-speaker colour coding, ideal for interview formats, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions.
Designed for the venue floor and the control room
LiveCaptions runs as a lightweight, single-purpose tool that stays out of the way during a show. A menu bar icon provides at-a-glance status. The caption display window locks its aspect ratio to the NDI output resolution, so what the operator sees on their monitor is exactly what goes to air. Auto-clear on silence keeps the output clean between segments, and a configurable delay means captions disappear on the operator's terms — not the software's.
With support for 12 languages, LiveCaptions is ready for multilingual events and international productions without switching tools or services.
Availability and pricing
LiveCaptions will be available on the Mac App Store as a free download with core captioning functionality. A one-time Pro in-app purchase unlocks NDI output enhancements, Conversation Mode, 4K resolution, transparent backgrounds, and advanced customisation. Pricing will be announced at launch.
